The Hart Family: Opportunity; individuals united by the belief that time spent with the family is what matters most.
Dennis M. Hart, Sr., came from a rough and tumble Colorado household of eight boys. This is where his lifelong love of the great outdoors began. With his brothers he spent his winter days skiing and his summers working and fishing, when time permitted. Despite the looming threat of Vietnam, at 17, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army Security Agency. He saw the Army as an opportunity to realize his potential. During basic training his natural leadership, intellect and determination were observed and he was sent to Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning. As the top academic graduate in his OCS class, Dennis became the youngest commissioned officer in the US Army at 19 years old.
In 1964, Dennis's opportunity was as a strategic intelligence officer with the 1st Infantry Division for General William DePuy, specializing in the Kunming Military District of South China. Vietnam was his theatre for 3 of his 6 years of active service. He received two Army Commendation Medals and the Bronze Star.
Returning to the US in 1967 as a hero, Dennis met many challenges that he quickly turned to opportunities. While the world dismissed the honor of his commitment to his country and his Vietnam service, he met his lifelong supporter, Kathy Deedy. They married, and she encouraged his academic and business pursuits. After completing his Bachelor's in Economics, Dennis entered UC Berkeley's MBA program. While working full time at Wells Fargo, Dennis managed to be a full time graduate student reporting directly to the Dean of Berkley's Business School. With an MBA, Dennis was promoted to be the CFO of Wells Fargo Mortgage Company.
In 1977, with two toddlers and a new baby, Dennis and Kathy took a chance on mortgage banking. Using their dining room table, that chance was quickly seen as opportunity. What emerged was First California Mortgage Company which grew into the largest individually owned mortgage bank in the US with 109 offices in 42 states.
Dennis has started and acquired multiple companies throughout the years. His companies have financed and built over 1,000 residential developments in the West, and financed over 300,000 homes in all 50 states. The focus of his business investments is to provide opportunity for America's homebuyers. His experiences in Vietnam and the value that he places on his own family, remind him daily that creating a home is everyone's dream. Homeownership is a universal goal. Achieving it is a life-long commitment. It is the commitment to these values that drives the Hart Family's development of River Ranch in McCall, Idaho.
Presented with the chance to purchase the land known as River Ranch, the opportunity was clear; cattle and seed oats now, and then preserving the Ranch for the future. Dennis and Kathy, and Judd and Diane DeBoer, decided to act as this was the last 2.5 miles of undeveloped river frontage on the edge of McCall. Here among the acres of rustling tree branches, the sound of running water and the silence of Western skies, the Hart and DeBoer Families, more than 30 years ago, decided they would jointly create a unique opportunity to realize a generational development. The Ranch offers vastness of land and privacy, and yet is within walking distance to McCall. This gives River Ranch owners the ability to create a home that is a sanctuary for their families. A place to dream, share stories, and watch future generations unfold.
All family members share in the operation of the development company and are equally committed to building a unique environment for their children and grandchildren. Dennis and Kathy Hart, and their family, feel that this is the true opportunity of River Ranch - an opportunity that lasts multiple lifetimes.
